The Tennessee statewide prison record search provides
a search of the Department of Corrections (DOC)
database for that state. The Tennessee DOC provides
records for both current inmates of the state
correctional system, AND previous felony
incarcerations for individuals imprisoned in the
state penitentiaries.
Records are available going back as far as 1992.
Tennessee does not have an online
searchable database at this time, so our
researchers will extract the records manually,
directly from the state archive system.
Tennessee currently has thirteen (13) state correctional
facilities.
The information
returned will include the case identifiers, case
numbers, charges, and period of incarceration,
county where case filed, and parole status.
The
minimum information that is required to make a
search of the Tennessee DOC database is a full name.
But to reduce the risk of
a "false
positive" where another person's records
are found under a similar name, we prefer to
also have a middle initial and a date of birth
(DOB). Note that a search solely based on a name
may produce multiple offenders, and some form of
unique identifier will be needed to extract the
correct record from that list. A search on
"John Smith" in the Colorado DOC
database for example, produced more than 700
records.
All searches are made much easier if you
are able to provide the individual's Social
Security Number, and that reduces the chances of
an incorrect record being recovered to almost
zero.
The more
information about the person's previous
addresses that you can provide, the better, as
this ensures that we search all the states
applicable to that individual. This and any
other additional information can be entered in
the "Additional Comments" section in
the online application form.

If the person that you are searching on is
currently in prison, but their trial or court
proceedings are still in progress, or in the
process of being adjudicated, and if the person
has not posted bail, then that will not show up
on their record. Until they are convicted, their
prison record will not appear. |
